Microsoft Enables iPhone-to-Windows File Sharing for Insiders

Microsoft has begun gradually rolling out a feature enabling file sharing between iPhones and Windows PCs for users in its Windows Insider program. This functionality simplifies transferring files between the two devices, addressing a common pain point for iPhone and Windows users.

To access the feature, users need the latest versions of the relevant applications. Specifically, the Phone Link app on Windows must be updated to version 1.24112.73 or higher, and the Link to Windows app on iPhone must be on version 1.24112.89.0 or higher. Additionally, users must have an iPhone running iOS 16 or later.

File transfers from an iPhone to a Windows PC are straightforward. Users navigate to the desired file on their iPhone, click the share icon, and select the “Link to Windows” option. They then choose the target device to complete the process. For transferring files from a Windows PC to an iPhone, users right-click the desired file, select “Share,” and then click on “My Phone” to initiate the transfer.

This new capability is available through the Phone Link app, previously known as Your Phone, which bridges communication and file-sharing between Windows PCs and mobile devices. By extending this functionality to iPhones, Microsoft aims to improve compatibility and user experience for its ecosystem.

The rollout is currently limited to Windows Insider program members, a group that tests early features and updates. The broader availability of the feature has not yet been announced but represents a step toward seamless integration between Apple and Windows platforms.
